Netizens Slam Family of Old Lady Who Still Lets Her Sell Puto Despite Her Condition

She walks in a difficult manner, with her body painfully bent but this old lady continues to sell puto to earn money for her family. But netizens were angry that her family still lets her do this, especially in her condition.

Although not identified, the old lady was photographed by Charles Kenneth Gamalo Capricho who greatly admired her for her tenacity despite her difficult situation.

NGAYON MO sabihing hirap na hirap kana sa sitwasyon mo. NGAYON MO sabihing pinagkaitan ka ng magandang buhay?” Charles wrote on Facebook, sharing the old lady’s photos and reminding us all to be content with our lives.

Always, there is someone who is experiencing a more difficult situation than what we are facing; thus, we should not complain about our life, no matter how hard we think it might be.

Just look at this old lady. Despite her bent back and slow movement, she continues to sell puto. She is carrying those heavy food baskets filled with goods she needs to sell yet she is not complaining about the hardships she had to endure.

Sadly, this old lady is not the only elderly person still in the streets to earn money for their families. Many have also gone viral in the past, with netizens slamming their families for still allowing them to go out and face the dangers of the busy streets in their frail bodies.

A lot of netizens think that these old people want to feel useful and not be a burden to their families but many believe that if only their children had jobs, too, these old ones will no longer have to go out and earn money.

Netizen Simply Makes Use of MS Excel to Create Amazing Painting of Luneta Park

Using a total of 87,346 cells on MS Excel, one netizen made a rather impressive painting of Luneta Park! His masterpiece would soon go viral, with many other netizens saying that they might also start doing this to get their minds off the community quarantine.

Luneta Park Painting with MS Excel

On March 20, Robert Stephen Nuñez shared the painting he was able to make on MS Excel. It impressed so many netizens who could not believe that this could actually be done. After all, MS Excel is not something that you associate with painting – you have MS Paint or some other tool for that.

MS Excel is a tool for making spreadsheets, calculations, reports, and other mathematical items, not something you use for painting! But Nuñez proved us all wrong after he managed to accomplish this impressive feat.

The painting of Luneta Park looks so nice, with the monument looking so grand in the middle while people could be seen hanging out at the foreground. Just like the real park, there are plenty of trees and flagpoles with Philippine flags flying up high.

Perhaps he did some copy-paste of the cells so the flagpoles are identical. But copy-paste or not, this artwork is so impressive! Many netizens were also amazed by the details in the painting, including the distinct appearance of the people and animals.

And if you look closely, you can see a drama about to unfold in some of the characters in the painting… Did you see it? It’s wonderful how Nuñez was able to also add a story into the artwork, even without putting any words in or adding a hint on his post.

Painting with Excel

While Nuñez impressed many Pinoys, he’s not actually the first one to think of creating a painting with MS Excel. Japanese artist Tatsuo Horiuchi went viral some years ago for using the same media to create. It’s hard to believe that Horiuchi’s works are made from MS Excel because he actually makes lifelike illustrations.

Hospital Staff Use Garbage Bags, Plastic Bags as Improvised PPEs

Staff at a hospital in Los Baños had to improvise using garbage bags and plastic bags to protect themselves against COVID-19 because there are no Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) available for them to use.

Improvised PPEs

Tes Depano, a health worker at St Jude Hospital Los Baños in Los Baños, Laguna shares some heartbreaking photos of people working at the hospital wearing the improvised PPEs. In the photos, the health workers could be seen moving medical equipment into the hospital and posing for photo ops in their rather heartbreaking suits.

We are calling the attention of DOH or kung sino mang ahensya na maaaring makapag-supply sa amin ng Personal Protective Equipments.

As frontliners in the battle against COVID-19, these health workers deserve to have the best equipment to protect themselves from the virus, yet they have no other choice but to improvise.

It is heartbreaking to see that they are wearing garbage bags to cover their bodies. Yellow sando bags cover their feet, hands, and head. The black plastic material of their ‘suits’ and the yellow plastic bags make the health workers look a bit funny in their improvised PPEs, but their plight is absolutely heartbreaking.

At Greater Risk

The improvised PPEs might protect these health workers at some level but take note that medical workers in hospitals with better equipment have contracted the virus and many lost the battle. The ones in the improvised PPEs are at a greater risk of getting sick but they have no other choice.

Many netizens could not help but feel angry about the situation.

Buti pa yung nagsasanitize/nagdidisinfect sa kalsada kasama ni mayor naka medical grade PPE. Yung humaharap sa Covid+ na pasyente nakabalot sa trashbag… 😑” one wrote.

A lot praised the health workers for what they are doing but still felt bad about their situation.

Naiiyak and natatawa ako kita mo namn kahit anong problema may solusyon ang pinoy.. kung di lang kami lockdown pinuntahan ko na tong mga to eh! 😣” another netizen commented.

What is a PPE?

PPE means personal protective equipment, defined as protective clothing or equipment designed to protect the wearer’s body from injury or infection. These often include helmets, goggles, and other garments, such as safety boots.

Different PPEs are made using different materials to protect the wearer from various hazards, including physical, chemicals, biohazards, electrical, heat, and airborne particulate matter.

Private Company Goes Viral for Giving Employees 1 Month’s Supply of Groceries, Other Benefits

Amid the problems that many businesses and workers face in the lockdown implemented as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a lot face the uncertainty in the coming days. What will they feed their families amid the 1-month lockdown? Will they be terminated if they don’t report the work because there are no transport options from their home to work?

A company went viral for giving employees 1 month’s supply of groceries, plus other benefits.

Employee Benefits

Thanks to businesses like Ezential Corporation, the company that sells Redjuice, a number of workers are rejoicing. In a memo sent last March 16, the company announced that it understood perfectly well what the workers are going through.

So, the management decided to follow the lockdown announcement by the government, suspending all their office activities until April 14, 2020, the last day of the lockdown.

Even if they won’t be reporting to work, the employees will receive the following benefits:

  • 1 month supply of basic grocery items such as canned goods and instant noodles
  • 1 bag of rice (25kg)
  • 2 cutoffs Advanced Salary for every regular employees and 1 cut-off for every newly hired employees
  • Php 8,000 COVID-19 cash assistance for regular employees and 4,000 for newly hired employees
  • Php 10,000 cash advance – for salary deduction starting on May 15, 2020 which will deduct P500 per cutoff, zero interest
  • Php 1,000 hazard pay for every event that requires attendance
  • Php 7,000 vacation allowance for every regular employees; however, 90% of attendance from January to March 15 is required to qualify
  • Additional Php15,000 medical assistance for those who have not yet availed their previous privilege

Impressive package, right?

Employees Required to Stay at Home

But there’s a catch – it’s reasonable, of course. Because the company is paying its employees to stay at home, they should stay at home! Anytime from March 17 to April 15, the management will conduct a random surprise visit to employees’ homes. During the visit, if the employee is not at home, he/she may be terminated for cause, unless he/she has a compelling reason for being out of the house.

Should the employee need to go out of the house to buy food, medicines, or undergo medical check-up he/she must inform his immediate superior.

Sounds reasonable enough.

COVID-19 Lockdown

In many parts of the world, including the Philippines, governments ordered a lockdown across its borders, prohibiting non-essential trips via land, sea, or air to limit people’s movement. This is done to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
