Wise Mom Lets Kids Have the Phones They Wanted on an Installment Basis

Entrepreneur Michelle Mangahas has three kids: Mark, 14, Mika, 11, and Matthew, 6. Just like many other kids these days, Michelle’s children wanted to have a new smartphone that could take great photos, but she only gave them old phones in the past.

The single mom would later let the kids have the phones they wanted, as long as they agreed to pay on an installment basis. Yay or nay?

Mommy Michelle told Smart Parenting that her kids actually have old phones when they asked to buy a new model that sells for Php10,000.

I told them I didn’t see a valid reason why a 14-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl would need such expensive phones. I also told them they already had phones, which should be enough for school research and a little bit of gaming,” she narrated.

But the kids reasoned out that their old phones weren’t so good. Mark said the phone that cost them Php2,700 to buy took “low quality photos”. Mika received hers for free from Mommy Michelle’s postpaid plan when she completed school as an achiever. But it’s 2 years old.

I told my kids na hindi obligasyon ng magulang na bigyan ng phones ang anak nila. Ang obligasyon ko is to feed them and send them to school,” Mommy Michelle explained.

Although kaya ko naman sila bigyan, sinasabi ko sa kanila na ang daloy ng pera walang kasiguraduhan. Kailangan mag-ready sa posibleng panahon na walang gaanong income.

Because she had taught the kids, particularly Mark and Mika, early on to save money for future needs, they were able to fork out Php3,700 and Php5,000 in savings, respectively. This money went to their phone fund, but they are supposed to pay their mom in installment for the rest of the phone amount they borrowed from her.

Although she doesn’t impose a strict deadline, she continues to remind them of their payments. So far, Mika is the one who pays up the installment faster despite getting a smaller allowance compared with Mark.

Mark has a harder time sa paghuhulog. Sabi niya malakas siyang kumain ‘di hamak sa kapatid niya, so mas kaunti natitira sa baon niya,” Mommy Michelle shared. She doesn’t mind as long as the kids are responsible enough to pay up when they can.

What a good way to teach financial responsibility.

What’s the Difference Between Installment and Layaway?

Both are types of loan that is paid over time, with smaller amounts of scheduled payments instead of a one-time payment. However, the customer can already use or get the item while still paying for an installment loan while the layaway item can only be received once the full loan is paid up.

Diners Go Viral for Cleaning Up Their Table after Eating at Restaurant

Diners go viral for cleaning up their table after eating at a restaurant, making other netizens comment that this should be something that Filipinos must start practicing.

Do you also practice the same thing?

Diners Go Viral for Practicing CLAYGO

In the Philippines, it is common to see diners simply standing up and leaving their tables as is after a meal.

If you ask them why they do so, they will tell you that they’re paying the servers or waiters to do the job. So, why should they do it themselves?

That’s so common that it actually becomes viral when people do it – just like the group of male diners who was praised for cleaning up their table after eating at a restaurant.

The group of young men had their meal at what looked like a Korean samgyeopsal (or samgyupsal) restaurant.

It might have been an ordinary mealtime for the group, and they exited the restaurant like other diners – yet what they did at their table after the meal received a thumbs-up from netizens.

Instead of just leaving their mess for the servers to clean up, they made sure to clean up as much of the space as they could.

While they can’t wash the utensils, they made sure to stack them up neatly. They also grouped food leftovers so it will be easier for the servers to clean up.

Even the stove was cleaned as neatly as they can.

Every morsel was cleaned off the table. And though they probably didn’t have a rag to wipe the table, it still looked as clean as if it is ready for the next meal (as long as the used utensils are removed).

Comments from netizens were all praises to this group.

Pinalaki ng maayos ng magulang,” one netizen wrote.

Dapat tularan,” another wrote.

What is CLAYGO?

CLAYGO is the practice of cleaning up after yourself, whether it is after dining out at a restaurant or doing something else (like in the gym).

Guy Jokes about Becoming Thin Because of Waiting for the National ID to Arrive

A guy jokes about becoming thin because of waiting for the national ID to arrive – and the post quickly went viral because most people are still waiting for theirs, too!

Guy Jokes about Becoming Thin Over National ID

Have you received your national ID?

For most Filipinos who don’t have a valid ID, the national ID was the best option for getting one because it was for free and available for everyone. It was the saving grace of all the IDs, considering that you need to present a valid ID to get a valid ID. It’s a never-ending bureaucratic loop.

Everyone is entitled to get it for free from the PSA (Philippine Statistics Office).

Sadly, it was excellent in theory but the execution was less than satisfactory. Many Filipinos are still waiting for their IDs to arrive over a year after flocking to the registration centers to get one.

Recently, netizen Joemar Santos Torres went viral after sharing a photo with his national ID, joking that he became thin waiting for it to arrive.

It’s actually an allusion to the joke/saying that you can get thin for worrying over or waiting for something.

But because most people haven’t received their IDs, many can relate to the joke.

In the photos, Torres holds his national ID with a chubbier photo.

Dear PSA, pumayat na ‘ko kakahintay,” he joked.

Of course, it’s just a joke. He actually began to lose weight shortly after having the photo taken for his ID in July 2021.

He has lost as much as 60 lbs since then and looked so different when he finally got the ID in November 2022.

But it was actually his choice to do it.

Hindi po ako nag-rice for three months, almost every day ang exercise like jogging, volleyball, and badminton with my brother,” he explained.

He shares that he’s happier now because he can do so many things, including running faster.

Freediving is Booming in the Philippines Taking Over Traditional Dive Spots

Filipinos many times forget how beautiful it is in their own country and have the idea that world class travel only starts when one leaves the Philippines.

Thanks to a sudden boom in a certain diving style called “free diving”, Filipinos discover what foreigners have already 30-40 years ago, that Philippines is such a beautiful country to do diving in.

“Freediving means you hold your breath under water free from any diving gears.” , explains Risa otherwise known as “Madame Riri” on Social media, a leading influencer in the field of freediving. Her goal is to promote local Tourism amongst Filipinos to explore the freediving destinations, to help the Tourism economy get back on its feet.

Just like Madame Riri, thousands of Filipinos are excited in exploring the Philippines, and in just 3 months she has already went diving in Anilao nearby Manila, Boracay, Bohol, and just recently visited Coron to explore the fresh waters of Barracuda Lake. “Coron is definitely one of the best dive spots i have seen so far”, said Madame Riri.

The lake is specially beautiful as the Limestone walls continue to descend very sharply under water, this is what makes freediving such a great photo opportunity for the social media crazy society nowadays.

“Freediving is booming because you can do certain movements in the water that divers call “to aura” under water”, along side coral walls and the colorful fishies.”, said Madame Riri

Another reason why divers love the underwater world is to explore the nature, with amazingly colored corals that come in different shapes and forms and the thousands of beautiful fishes one should see.

“It’s like flying to Africa to visit the safari tours to see the wildlife, the only difference here is that everything happens under water. I like to call it the “ocean safari”. I am glad we Filipinos finally discover our world class corals, which foreign travelers have been flying for. They come from all corners the world”, said Madame Riri

Here is a picture of Madame Riri in Busuanga, Palawan, paying a visit to the so called “Dugong” during her recent Coron trip.

Madame Riri Busuanga

Philippines is very beautiful on land, but also under water – our Country with a wide variety of tropical underwater life we should enjoy and explore.

It is always good to remember that it doesn’t need to be a trip out the country to enjoy a world class vacation.
