Video Shows Brgy. Councilor Taking Half of Residents’ SAP Money

A video shows a barangay councilor taking half of the residents’ SAP money, telling them that the mayor is asking them to return part of the cash. The video has gone viral, with many netizens angrily slamming this old man and calling out the local officials for blatant corruption.

SAP Emergency Assistance for the Poor

The government rolled out a Special Amelioration Program (SAP) emergency assistance to help the ‘poorest of the poor’ and those who lost their jobs have money to feed their families during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

The SAP money is directly downloaded to the cash cards of 4Ps beneficiaries or given as cash to other recipients. But it turned out that this cash distribution has become an easy ground for local officials to get plenty of money from the innocent citizens who had no idea about their rights under the program.

There were reports of places wherein residents were asked to group themselves so they can share the cash that one family is entitled to receive.

But in a video allegedly taken in Hagonoy, Bulacan, an old man who was identified as a barangay councilor was telling the residents to give him back half of the SAP money. The residents will only receive their SAP money if they sign the list and give him back half of the cash.

In the video, he could be heard telling the residents that the barangay captain has no idea about this, but the money will supposedly go to the mayor’s house. Some of the residents readily complied, but the guy taking the video was skeptical and asked to take a picture of the list, not revealing that he was actually taking a video.

Here’s the video:

Someone defended the barangay councilor’s actions, however.

Should SAP Beneficiaries Return the Money?

There are instances when SAP beneficiaries returned their cash they received, declining the assistance in favor of those who needed it more. But they are not supposed to return half the money to the officials who claim that this will be given to the mayor or something other local official, just like what the old man is claiming in the video.

Singer Gets Blocked by Groom Who Wanted Her to Sing 20 Songs for Free at Wedding

A singer gets blocked by a groom who wanted her to sing 20 songs for free at his wedding! The guy told her that she is greedy for asking payment because she is “just going to sing”! Tsk. Tsk.

Singers Gets Blocked by Groom

These days, a lot of singers get exposure from TV and online shows. They gain followers from these shows, allowing them to make a name for themselves and also make money. Since many of them become singers for a living, they do need to earn money from their shows and invitations.

Patricia Joy Peñano became part of the “I Can See Your Voice” TV show on ABS CBN as “Secret Songer”. Since her stint on the show, she received a lot of messages from fans, asking her to sing at their wedding or some other special event.

Since she enjoys singing and can also earn from these events, she does not mind guesting in these special occasions.

But back in May, she had an encounter with a groom who demanded that she sing 20 songs at his wedding – for free! He actually got angry that she wants to be paid for singing 20 songs because he thinks that she should do it for free because “she’s just going to sing”.

While singing is easy for singers, of course, doing it as someone’s wedding (especially someone they don’t even know) is a job, not something that one should expect to be free of charge! Tsk. Tsk.

The groom name-dropped a Mayor, saying he is their relative and that if Peñano will sing at his wedding, he can help her become popular because he will share their videos for his followers and friends.

Peñano politely declined but he got so mad that he said so many hurtful words at her, then blocked her! The singer only posted about the incident recently, saying that this should be a lesson for others, too.

Finding a Wedding Singer

Finding a wedding singer can be tricky but if you know someone who can sing well, you can invite him/her to sing at your wedding. Don’t expect them to do it for free, however, especially if you want them to sing several songs.

Often, wedding coordinators will recommend a good singer or may already offer a package that includes everything, such as the wedding singer and reception emcee.

British Guy Living in the Streets after Pinay Wife Allegedly Ran Away with His Money

A British guy is left living in the streets after his Pinay wife allegedly ran away with all his money. The foreigner, now 75 years old, relies on the mercy of Filipinos to have food.

This led to many netizens expressing concern on his well-being and wishing that he can go back to his home country where he might have a better life…

British Guy Allegedly Duped by Pinay

A lot of foreigners move to the Philippines after visiting the country and falling in love with its beauty. But there are also many who did so after falling in love with a local.

Considering that their money has more value in the Philippines, a lot of foreigners are able to buy lots of properties, build plenty of businesses, and own various vehicles. However, this is usually under the name of their Filipino partners because foreigners are not allowed to solely own properties in the country.

This led to many gold-digger Filipinos taking advantage of the law. Apparently, British guy Arthur Ernest is among those who fell under these schemes. According to the locals, he used to own a computer shop at Halang in Canlalay, Biñan in Laguna. However, he was later spotted living in the streets and relying on the kindness of the locals for food.

Many knew that his wife, a certain Elsa Freeman, co-owned the computer shop but they had not seen her since.

Some think she might have passed on but others said she now lives in Canada and has essentially left Arthur after allegedly running away with his money. Though netizens are not sure what really happened between the two, what’s sure is that the British guy is now so poor that he can’t even afford to buy food or medicines for his diabetes.

Can Foreigners Own Property in the Philippines?

According to the law, foreign nationals are not allowed to have outright ownership of real property but only pertains to private land. The Philippine Condominium Act allows foreigners to buy their own condo units, as long as 60% of the building is owned by Filipinos.

Couple Flexes 5-Digit Savings after Choosing to Make All Php50 Bills ‘Invisible’

A couple recently flexed their 5-digit savings after choosing to make all Php50 bills as ‘invisible’. Thanks to their savings, they were able to have enough cash to start building their house. Truly inspiring, huh?

‘Invisible’ Php50 Challenge

It was last year when Kember Flores Casabuena heard about the ‘invisible’ Php50 challenge while watching an episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.

At first, Kember put the money inside a shoebox and encouraged her partner, Alphie Castante Olvis, to join her in saving his Php50 bills, too. Kember said that her partner was not so keen on the idea at first but was later encouraged to also add his Php50 bills to the box after seeing her doing this enthusiastically.

Kember and Alphie were so determined to do the challenge that they would really save up all the Php50 bills, even if they receive several bills as change. It was difficult to follow but they aimed to truly make the Php50 bills invisible so they can save up enough money to start building a house for themselves.

As the months passed, their savings filled the shoe box, but they did not think about stopping. So, they bought an empty can of paint to transfer their ‘invisible’ savings.

According to Kember, her partner works as tile setter while she simply stays at home. Yet Alphie’s job is not regular and there were times when he didn’t have any work, but the two chose to live within their means and continued with their savings challenge.

Recently, as the COVID-19 crisis raged, the two faced a lot of financial challenges but they were able to pull through with the other savings they had.

When they finally opened the can filled with Php50 bills, they were so happy to see that the 5-digit savings may already be used to build their own house. It will be a small and simple one but the couple feels happy that they will no longer be renting.
