Syrian vlogger Basel Manadil, best known as the vlogger behind “The Hungry Syrian Wanderer” channel, recently went viral again after giving a wonderful surprise to garbage collectors in his neighborhood. This kindhearted Syrian vlogger surprises the garbage collectors with free groceries!
Surprise for Garbage Collectors
Basel has done so many things to the people of the Philippines, sharing his blessings with so many poor folks who just happened to be at the right place at the right time. There were many times when Basel would simply go out looking for people to help – and these lucky ones received a lot of money or a lot of goods!
Recently, as Metro Manila is placed on enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), Basel’s business had to temporary close down just like all the many others in metropolis. But this did not stop him from helping out.
In one of his recent vlogs, he shared the surprise he prepared for garbage collectors who regularly pass by their area to collect their trash.
“They knock to ask and collect our garbage, they are always there to clean up our mess. Inabangan ko po sila and I surprised them and made some ‘mini trash bins’ full of groceries. Pa simpleng way to help during our enhanced community quarantine,” Basel shared.
“Our garbage collectors are also our frontliners, Maraming maraming salamat po sa inyong serbisyo para mapanatiling malinis ang ating mga bayan. #BringingBackBayanihan.”
The garbage collectors were definitely surprised by the gesture! They were so happy to receive the unexpected blessing from this kind Syrian who always claims that he might not be Filipino by blood but he is Filipino by heart – and he’s bringing back ‘bayanihan’ in these sweet surprises he makes for poor Pinoy folks.
“I’m so happy to see them carrying food instead of garbage. At least they will feel appreciated somehow. Next time you see them, if you can’t help them dahil kapos din po, just thank them. They will appreciate it,” Basel said.
What is Bayanihan?
Bayanihan is known as the core essence of the Filipino culture wherein Filipinos help each other in times of need. This includes doing tasks together to lighten the load or providing food for the less fortunate so that no one gets hungry.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, his love for Lola Erlinda was tested when she contracted the virus and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. As his wife spent weeks in quarantine, Lolo Rogelio keeps forgetting that she is sick and that he is not allowed to visit.

The grandkids would often call Lola Erlinda to help Lolo Rogelio calm down.
When Lola Erlinda became better, the grandchildren decided to surprise their grandpa. The old man even thought they were pranking him when they told him he has a visitor – and it turned out to be Lola Erlinda. Awwww.
But when he saw his ‘visitor’, he shyly took her hand instead of giving her a kiss. He later explained that he felt shy because everyone was teasing them about the ‘kissing scene’. LOL. You’re so cute, Lolo Rogelio!

Late Dad Sends Mysterious Email to Daughter, Still Plans Surprise for Wife
She lost her dad last year, but Alyssa was surprised to receive a mysterious email from him, containing detailed instructions to surprise his wife! It’s a really sad but Alyssa decided to do everything on the email, knowing it was her dad’s last wish to make her mom happy.
Alyssa lost her dad, Bing Mendoza, last year. So, imagine her surprise when she received an email from him, with detailed instructions on what she should do to make her mom happy.
“Alyssa, follow my instructions in this email completely and carefully. I’m sending this to you in the off-chance that I’m not in my right mind or worse, gone,” Daddy Bing wrote.
The mysterious email scared Alyssa who did not open it for several days.
“Natakot ako. Dalawang araw kong hindi binuksan ‘yung email. Pero nu’ng binasa ko na, umiyak talaga ako. Sobrang best friend ko kasi dad ko. At miss na miss ko na siya. ‘Yung words sa email, ‘yung dad ko talaga ‘yun! Alam kong siya ‘yun!” Alyssa shared.
“‘Yung dad ko ‘yung type ng person na he would surprise us at the most random times with the most random things. Miss na miss ko na siya. I wish he was here.”
The email contained detailed instructions on what she should do. Her dad had already arranged for a florist to deliver flowers for her mom every June 10, Valentine’s Day, and August 19 for the coming years. The dates are presumably the mom’s birthday and the couple’s wedding anniversary.
There are also instructions for what she should do to take her mom out on a date, making sure her mom orders food she loves, and that Alyssa should make sure there are decorations because according to Daddy Bing, her mom loves to take photos. He made sure every single detail is right!
He even told her to ask him for some money so her mom could go to the salon. Awwww.
It’s bittersweet to read such an email, knowing they already lost him. But Alyssa made sure to follow her dad’s wishes…

How to make your anniversary special? There are really so many things you can do, but a surprise party would be wonderful.
Buy flowers for your partner. A gift would also be nice. You don’t have to take them to a fancy restaurant – because cooking your own food and preparing it at home would also be great; though that might not be easy to pull off as surprise.
You can also take a road trip or go on vacation, if possible.
Mommy Thoughts ‘Pranks’ Food Delivery Riders for Father’s Day Special
Mommy Thoughts ‘pranks’ food delivery riders for Father’s Day special! It’s a good prank that would actually be fantastic for everyone to do for the delivery riders in their locality, too…
Food delivery riders have made our lives much easier, particularly during the community quarantine period when movement/travel outside our homes is limited to help stop the spread of the virus.
What’s sad, however, is that there were so many people who thought that having so many food delivery riders at your beck and call made them easy targets for pranks. There were plenty of reports of food delivery riders getting pranked with fake orders.
While it’s true that most companies reimburse the riders for the unpaid fake orders, processing the reimbursement is an added hassle for them. The time they spent taking (and paying!) the order, then delivering these to the fake customers, becomes wasted just for these pranks!
With that in mind, vlogger Mommy Thoughts decided to make good ‘pranks’ for the food delivery riders at their hometown, Baguio City. This would make a nice balance to the bad pranks that many of their colleagues had experienced in the hands of heartless fake customers…
Check out this nice video by Mommy Thoughts to warm your heart:
The good ‘prank’ by Mommy Thoughts was done just in time for the Father’s Day special. Her goal is to ‘prank’ some food delivery riders who are dads, giving them all or some of the food she ordered and greeting them a “Happy Father’s Day”!
But what if the guy isn’t a father yet? Hmmmmm. Would that be considered as “fail”? Thankfully, the rider still got some food even if he’s not a dad yet. Nice one, Mommy Thoughts!
When is Father’s Day?
Father’s Day is a day set aside for honoring fathers, whether biological dads or adoptive dads or even single moms who also do dad roles.
In the Philippines, Father’s Day is officially celebrated every third Sunday of June, as proclaimed by former President Corazon Aquino in 1988.
