Student with No Shoes Wins Three Gold Medals in Track and Field

In life, not everyone is lucky enough to have been born into a rich, happy family. But it is really up to us to make our dreams come true, no matter the situation or the status of life we are born into.

Recently, a student went viral for winning three gold medals in track and field, despite the fact that she was actually running nearly barefoot! Rhea Bullos of Batasan, Iloilo is a participant of the Iloilo Schools Sports Council Meet in Iloilo, central Philippines. Yet this young lady would go viral not only because of her impressive wins, but also because of her makeshift shoes!

“How far can you go?” a post on social media read as photos of Rhea were shared on the page.

In the pictures, the young athlete could be seen sitting, watching the proceedings. But on her feet are a pair of barely there makeshift ‘shoes’ made from brown surgical tape. The young girl had wrapped her feet on that tape, carefully putting some on her toes as well.

To make sure she can still maintain her balance, the young runner individually wrapped her toes with the surgical tape. What’s so sweet about this picture is that the young girl actually drew the ‘Nike’ emblem on her makeshift shoes, and also put the brand’s name on the side of her barely there footwear.

What’s impressive about this young lady is that despite the non-existent shoes, she was able to win golds in three categories: 400m run, 500m run, and 800m run! What an amazing young woman.

The photos drew a lot of reactions on the internet, with many netizens expressing their wish to give the girl some shoes. We hope she gets those shoes before Christmas!

Female Cadet Tops PMA ‘Masidlawin’ Class 2020, Sixth Woman to Top Class Since 1993

A female cadet tops ‘Masidlawin’ Class of 2020 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), earning the distinction of being the sixth woman to top the class since 1993.

Top of the Class

Besting the 196 graduates of her class, “Masidlawin” Class of 2020, Gemalyn Sugui makes history as the sixth woman since 1993 to top the graduating class. That’s still a big deal considering that the country’s top military school was founded in 1905 and officially established in 1936.

The daughter of a farmer and a public school teacher, the 25-year-old Sugui plans to join the Philippine Army. Aside from being the Class Valedictorian, Sugui will also receive several awards: the Presidential Saber, the Achievement Award for Academic Excellence, the Rule of Law Award, the Philippine Army Saber, the Spanish Armed Forces Award, the JUSMAG Award, the Social Sciences Plaque, and the Management Plaque.

Although she’s an achiever, she did not expect to top the class.

Siguro may plano ang Diyos bakit nilagay Niya ako sa position na ito kahit na hindi ko man ito pinagdarasal na makuha, binigay Niya sa akin kasi kaya ko,” she told CNN Philippines.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, however, the graduation this year will be different from the previous ceremonies. The graduation rites will still push through as the cadets live within the campus, away from ‘outside contact’, but the ceremony will be small and won’t include their parents or guardians. The media won’t be allowed in the ceremony, too.

While the PMA graduation tradition involves cadets in formations on Fort Del Pilar’s Borromeo Field in Baguio City while doing the testimonial parade and review to honor retiring alumni and Trooping the Line, these might not be possible this year.

However, the graduation will be streamed live to allow everyone to watch the rites at the comforts of their homes. Many graduates feel sad about this.

Malungkot talaga ako kasi ito talaga ang hinihintay ng family ko na masaksihan sa lahat ng event ng PMA, ito ang pinaka importante kasi ito na ang pagtatapos ng paghihirap ko dito sa academy,” said Sugui.

What is PMA?

PMA is the Philippine military school of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). The school produces the country’s military officials as the training school of future officers of the AFP. The school is authorized to confer a Bachelor of Science degree on its graduates after they successfully complete the four-year course.

Police Officer Gives Money to Hardworking Student Who Works as GrabFood Rider

He thought he would be in trouble after passing at the lane dedicated for frontliners but GrabFood rider and working student Joshua Basa received something totally unexpected, $100 from the police officer who stopped him, PCPL Sirjon Nacino.

Kindhearted Policeman

According to Basa, he was heading to Sta. Mesa to pick up an order when he passed by the checkpoint along España Boulevard. He went to the frontliner lane but received a sermon from the policeman who got angry that he tried to move to the lane despite the barricade.

Basa kept asking for forgiveness, explaining that he’s just a working student who also works as GrabFood rider. He would have trouble paying the fine. Since he can’t produce his student ID, he could only give his OJT ID but the policeman got angry that he has money to buy a motorcycle but can’t pay the fine to get his license back.

Again, he explained that he only got the motorcycle on installment because he had a difficult time commuting from his home in Tondo to Pasay where he studied and then to his job at Shakey’s. At that point, the 21-year-old GrabFood rider burst into tears. He had been having so much troubles the entire day that this trouble at the checkpoint became his breaking point.

Nacino got something from his wallet and handed it to Basa. The young man was so scared and grateful at the same time that he was not even able to ask for the policeman’s name or check what he was given. He thanked the policeman and sped off, relieved that he was not given a ticket.

Sir!

The policeman later replied to his post after learning about it from a friend. The two met again when Basa went back to the same checkpoint, bringing food. But the policeman did not accept the food, telling the young man to bring it to his family instead. Basa said he didn’t expect that he would receive money from the policeman – and $100 (Php5,000) is a big amount!

It turned out the cop had Php1,000 in his wallet but he chose to give the hardworking student the $100 he had been keeping for a long time. He said that he prefers to help those who work hard to help themselves…

Woman Finds Long-Lost Dad on Barangay’s List of SAP Beneficiaries

A woman finds her long-lost dad on the barangay’s list of SAP beneficiaries – and it was totally unexpected because they both came from Mindanao but have actually been living in the same barangay in Quezon City for years without meeting each other!

Finding Her Long-Lost Dad

Annabelle Agustin spent the past 23 years looking for her long-lost father, but as fate would have it, she actually found him on the barangay’s list of SAP beneficiaries!

She was just 6 years old when her father left their home in Zamboanga. The couple had been fighting and Tatay Carlos Macrohon Agustin left the family to find a job in Metro Manila. They later heard that he went to Saudi but never heard from him again.

The children grew up without a father, hating him for leaving them. Yet they also longed to see him again. Annabelle and her siblings tried to find him, but even with new technology, they couldn’t. He’s not on Facebook and there’s really no one in their circles who knew him.

Eventually, Annabelle went to Metro Manila and got married. But the marriage also failed. She later moved to Brgy. Sta Monica in Novaliches, Quezon City, and now lives with her second husband. After searching for her father for over 23 years, Annabelle had given up. She thought that there was no chance that she would ever meet him again.

During the lockdown, Annabelle was among those who kept going back to the barangay hall in hopes of getting included among the SAP beneficiaries yet each time she went there, her name wasn’t on the list. But she was shocked to find her dad’s name! Of all the places in the world that he would live, he’d actually be at the same barangay she’s living in.

Seeking help from the barangay officials, she was finally able to find her dad – and it was so amazing because she had actually seen him before but had no idea that she was her dad. Watch their story here:
