Lawyer Goes Back to UP to Visit Honorary Dad: A Taho Vendor Who Helped Her in College

Back in college when Alex Castro goes to school without breakfast, it was a taho vendor who made sure she gets something to eat every single day. He would wait for her every morning, even when it was raining hard. Now that she’s a lawyer, she goes back to UP to visit her honorary dad – and they had a wonderful reunion!

“‘Tay, may abogado ka na.’ I imagined myself saying those words to you as I was driving along the University Avenue this morning. Coming home to UP always meant coming home to everything I loved and cherished for eight years, including you. So as I drove around campus, I kept throwing glances at large crowds, or the places you used to frequent, searching for the great mantataho — my Tatay Dong,” Castro wrote in a Facebook post.

She narrated the hardships she faced in college and how it was this taho vendor who helped her out; he gave her food, he gave her his only jacket when she was cold, and he proudly announced that she is his ‘daughter’.

I met you when I was a wide-eyed freshie. We’d see each other at 7am every day, because you were stationed at the building I had my morning class in. We’d chat every morning over taho. Eventually, you found out that I’d always go to school with an empty stomach. So you made it a point to wait for me in the morning, rain or shine, with a fresh cup of taho, every single day for four years, until I finished my undergrad degree,” Castro wrote.

It was wonderful for a poor student to have found an ally, an honorary dad in this taho vendor.

I was just a daughter you picked up along the way, but you were so protective of me. One rainy day in December of 2009, I went to school without a jacket. I remember you were so concerned. So the following morning, you handed me a package along with my taho. When I opened it, it was your jacket. The one you were wearing the previous morning, and all the mornings before that. Your ~only~ jacket. You wouldn’t take it back, and the only thing you said to me when I tried to give it back for the last time is, “Nilaban ko na ‘yan, ‘Nak. Iyo na ‘yan.”

Eventually, I was able to return the favor. I got you a new jacket for you to wear. You wore it with so much pride and such a huge smile the morning after, and all the mornings after that. Whenever your friends asked about it, you’d always say, “Bigay ng anak ko ‘yan.”

Now that she’s a lawyer, Castro went back to her alma mater to visit the man who had helped her through college, the taho vendor who was more than just a person selling taho but a second father who didn’t hesitate to help a student in need.

Fortunately, earlier today, word got to you that I was in UP. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw you rushing to the Sunken Garden from afar. When you saw me, you immediately embraced me and exclaimed, “I missed you!” It truly felt like a homecoming. You held me so tight, and finally, I was able to tell you the words you said you’d wait to hear from me — “‘Tay, may abogado ka na.

I hope I made you proud, ‘Tay. You deserve all the love in the world.

Isn’t that inspiring? What a beautiful story of love and family, even if these two aren’t related by blood…

Teacher Pranks Student with a Birthday Surprise

A teacher pranks student with a birthday surprise – and the entire class is actually in on the secret. The birthday boy’s reaction is priceless!

Wonderful teacher, isn’t he?

Teacher Pranks Student on Birthday

It is said that teachers are their students’ second parents – and that’s true in most cases.

There are even plenty of teachers who go the extra mile to make sure that their students feel special and loved, especially during certain moments or milestones in their lives.

Take for example teacher and digital creator Ariel Casimero Grijaldo Jr. who pranked his student (in a good way!) on his birthday.

The video quickly went viral, gaining over 3.5 million views despite being in Bisaya. Some netizens commented that even if they didn’t understand most of what’s being said on the video, they can feel the emotions that this young man felt throughout the clip.

It started with the teacher berating the young man for not wearing his school uniform.

And that isn’t actually surprising, considering that many teachers are unhappy when their students break the school rules, particularly when it comes to wearing their school uniform.

The teacher also told the young man that being unable to wash his clothes the previous week should be a reason for not wearing one. After all, he had several days to do it.

Again, it’s a good point.

The teacher made him stand up so he will understand what he did wrong.

The student knows that he’s in trouble and that the teacher is right. So, he didn’t show any resistance, although he was clearly embarrassed that everyone in the class heard the teacher berating him in this manner.

But things took a different turn after the teacher announced the consequences he had to face for his actions.

The whole class began singing the “Happy Birthday” – with their teacher as the leader! Awwww.

Some of his classmates went to his seat, carrying a cake.

The teacher explained that the other students were the ones who bought the cake.

What a sweet surprise for this young man couldn’t help but cry tears of joy as he felt overwhelmed by the beautiful prank.

Why Do Schools Require Uniforms?

There are many reasons why schools require uniforms:

  • For the distinct identity of the school population as students of that school
  • Less distraction to the students about their social status because they wear the same thing
  • Teaches discipline to students by letting them follow the rules on what they should and shouldn’t wear
  • Helps students dress smartly and neatly

Take for example a one-legged pump attendant who recently went viral after a video was shared by VISOR on their official social media page.

Share ko lang po ito. This is the reason why I never give sa mga beggars na able naman, and props sa Flying V Molino for giving this guy a chance to work,” wrote a VISOR follower who messaged the page to share the video.

I hope na may makapanood nito at baka sakaling mabiyayaan si sir ng prosthetic leg. Sobrang hanga po ako dyan kay sir na despite his condition, nagta-trabaho sya ng patas.

What an admirable guy!

While the video uploader wasn’t able to get the attendant’s details, it was later revealed that the photo was taken somewhere in Bacoor Boulevard.

Prosthetic Leg for the Pump Attendant

Paanatiks Ph, an orthotics and prosthetics service, said that their team will visit the pump attendant and provide him with the much-needed prosthetic leg!

Cum Laude Dedicates Success to Scavenger PWD Dad

Life isn’t easy for everyone. In fact, millions of people live in poverty and are having a difficult time making ends meet. Many of them don’t even have enough money to buy food.

What’s impressive, however, is that there are those who live below the poverty line but are striving to ensure that their lives become better through education or starting their own business, even with a small capital.

For Ross Leo Forbes Mercurio and his family, this comes in the form of education when he was sent to college by his dad, a PWD who is also a scavenger.

Mercurio graduated from his course of Bachelor of Science in Agri Business Management and Entrepreneur from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Lopez Quezon Branch, as cum laude.

He dedicates his success to his dad.

Pa, this is it.

He explained that even if his father is a PWD, he hasn’t heard him complain about life. Instead, his dad just continues on finding stuff he can scavenge to feed and support the family.

For all those sacrifices, Mercurio promises to give back and help ensure his parents will live a better life.
