Guard Earns Praise for Fixing a Young Student’s Skirt

Guards play a significant role in the establishments and places they are tasked to secure – and their role becomes more important in schools where they are expected to ensure the children are safe throughout the day they are inside the school.

But sometimes, guards don’t just ensure the kids’ safety but also act as second parents and ‘fairy godmother’ to those in need.

Take for example this lady school guard assigned at Silliman University Elementary School in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental located in central Philippines.

SG Freda Ramos has been working as guard at the school for 20 years. In all these years, she did not just guard the gates but also helped the students in one way or another.

In fact, she even has a sewing kit for emergencies!

A few days ago, Rima Diogenes Erames shared the photo of the guard sewing the skirt of a young student.

Ordinary people doing extraordinary work. Nakaka bilib ka Ate Guard,” Erames wrote.

A friend of Erames commented that this incident is surely not the first time because the guard has a sewing kit in hand. Erames agreed, saying that the guard revealed there had been many times in the past that students need to get their uniforms fixed; thus, she decided to buy the sewing kit so she can easily help them anytime they need it.

A lot of people were impressed by the guard’s action, saying that she’s not just a guard but a ‘girl scout’ who is always ready to help and even has the tools to do the job.

A number of parents also shared their own experiences with ‘Ate Freda’, the guard. Many said that the guard is the one they entrust with their children’s things while some even said that the guard fed their children at the time when they were not able to fetch them on time.

What a hero!

FoodPanda Rider Brings Baby While Making Deliveries, Makes Netizens Worry

Some people are calling him a responsible father for taking care of his baby while he works. But because of the nature of his job and the fact that he’s only using a bicycle, a FoodPanda rider from San Pedro, Laguna got a lot of netizens worried about their safety!

FoodPanda Rider Brings Baby to Work

In these modern times, it’s no longer surprising that the dads are helping their partners take care of their children, especially because many women have better-paying jobs these days.

Many employers also offer flexibility to their workers by allowing them to bring their kids to work or have them take care of their babies in a work-from-home setup.

But what if your job is delivering food around the city? Wouldn’t it be dangerous to bring your child around, particularly if you’re on a night shift?

That’s what netizens are asking after seeing photos of a young FoodPanda rider bringing his baby in a basket while making deliveries in San Pedro, Laguna.

This young dad was identified as Hershey Manuel by photo uploader Yuzu Katsu & Ramen. The restaurant tags Jeremiel Flores Quinto as the one who took the photo.

Concerned over the situation, particularly because the delivery was at night, Quinto had asked Manuel whether there was no one else he could leave the baby with as this could be dangerous for them both. But the young dad said that his wife also has to go to work and they’re just living with their tito.

Netizens are debating whether this is alright, with many saying that though he appears to be responsible and a good dad, he’s putting his child in danger by doing this. It’s just too risky.

Others were sad that this young dad has to do this but admired him for trying to make the best of his situation.

Policies on Bringing Child to Work

Different companies have different policies about bringing your child to work, though most wouldn’t allow it for safety purposes.

Although there are no specific laws against bringing a child to your workplace, the discretion may be up to the parent, especially if their job or workplace involves some kind of risk.

While they were planning for their wedding, she also expressed her wish not to have a grand wedding. Instead of spending a lot of money on their dream wedding, she just wanted to have an intimate one with family and close friends.

So, what can a guy do in such a situation? Well, Christopher knew exactly what he should do! His girlfriend doesn’t want those lavish gifts or a grand wedding, so he decided to use his savings to buy her a 6,000-sqm lot near the upcoming airport in Camotes Island. As “simple” as that.

Because it’s his grand gift for his girlfriend, the lot is in her name. Everyone’s pretty impressed, though there are still some sour graping folks who said that he should have put the lot in his name because his girlfriend might change her mind about marrying him and he might end up losing not just his girl but also the money he spent on that lot. Oooops.

What’s Sour Graping?

Sour graping is a type of human behavior that puts other people down because they can’t attain the other person’s achievement.

It comes from the fable of the fox who muttered that the grapes were sour anyway when he failed several times to get them.

Student Praised for Studying While Selling Fruits on a Cart

A student drew admiration online after he was spotted studying while selling fruits on a cart. Many netizens praised him for trying to do his best, given the difficult situation that he’s in – and also working hard to sell the fruits, probably to support his studies and his family.

Student Vendor Studies at the Sidewalk

So many people have been complaining about the implementation of online classes and distance learning modules in the Philippines, particularly because gadgets can be expensive and you’ll need to have an internet connection to attend the classes or submit assignments, projects, and performance tasks.

Also, it’s difficult for many parents to explain lessons to their children, particularly if they are working away from home or don’t even understand what these lessons are about.

But it’s admirable how others learned to adapt and find ways to make the most of the situation, no matter how difficult it might be.

Netizen Benj Gonzales of Marulas, Valenzuela City was out buying fruits for his pregnant wife when he spotted an admirable scene at the sidewalk just outside Marulas Public Market in Valenzuela City.

Unaware that someone was watching, the student vendor was intent on studying whatever it was he was working on the screen of his laptop.

Gonzales learned that this student’s name is Mike and he’s a Grade 9 student in Valenzuela National High School. At the time he first saw the student, the young man was attending an online class that’s why he was so intent on watching the screen.

He also expressed admiration for Mike’s outlook as a student.

Ang iba, naka-aircon pa, pero nagagawa pang magreklamo sa dami ng module na kanilang sinasagutan. Nakakatuwa itong batang ito. Bukod sa magalang na, masipag pang mag-aral habang nagtitinda,” he said.

Face-to-Face Classes in the Philippines

The Department of Education (DepEd) said that limited face-to-face classes in schools in areas deemed low risk for COVID-19 will start on November 15. This pilot run will be tested on 90 pre-identified and pre-approved schools across the country.

Face-to-face classes, even in these approved schools, will not be mandatory. Allowing children to attend these classes will be at the sole discretion of the parents.
