Car Owner Accepts Onions as Payment after Vehicle Got Hit by a Tricycle – It’s for Real

A car owner has earned praise online after accepting onions as payment after her vehicle got hit by a tricycle! And it really happened for real, no joke. Yay or nay?

Onions as Payment in Vehicular Accident

The prices of onions have skyrocketed in recent weeks that netizens are joking about giving them out as Christmas gifts, using them as jewelry pieces and bouquets, or even to pay for something.

But netizens didn’t quite expect that paying in onions would become a reality – that’s why photos of a tricycle driver paying the car owner some spring onions after he hit her vehicle by accident quickly went viral.

Everyone just couldn’t believe their eyes because the memes and jokes have finally come true! LOL

In the photo, a young lady can be seen smiling from ear to ear while accepting a big bunch of spring onions from a somber-looking man.

It was shared on Reddit by Axle Gallardo (u/axle_gallardo).

Sister In Law’s car got dented by a tricycle driver. Driver paid the car damage with Sibuyas (onions),” the post explained.

Axle’s sister-in-law (Reddit user u/Glad-Competition3835) explained that the accident, which happened in Laguna, was really the tricycle driver’s fault.

The road was full. I saw him coming to the side of my car in my side mirror. And I don’t know why he was moving to the right towards me,” she explained.

The left side is open and wide and he could have moved straight forward.

Moments later, she heard a loud crash.

Upon inspecting the damage caused by the crash, the young lady talked with the tricycle driver. She learned that he’s a farmer who was just trying to deliver his farm goods to a nearby province.

It was unclear why the tricycle driver had crashed into the car. Surprisingly, the car driver didn’t get angry and joked, instead, that maybe the tricycle driver should just pay her using vegetables.

The farmer replied that he has spring onions.

It was really just a joke for the car owner who was already preparing to drive away, but the tricycle driver hurried back carrying two bunches of the spring onions.

She refused to accept them, but the farmer/tricycle driver insisted – so she ended up accepting one.

Can You Really Pay with Goods instead of Money?

Yes. That’s actually called trading – but can only be accepted if both parties agreed to the trade.

Amazingly, the young lady paid with spring onions also experienced a similar thing in the past – and the people that hit her vehicle paid her with two fresh, ocean-caught fish.

Wow. What a kind-hearted young woman.

There are even times when he wakes up as early as 3AM just to prepare the food for his learners. He’s truly an admirable and dedicated teacher!

Feeding Program in Schools

Some schools have a feeding program, sometimes funded by the government but others are provided by the teachers or the parents need to contribute and prepare food for the students.

Considering the sheer volume of students in public schools, however, many of these feeding programs don’t last long unless the parents or teachers can continue covering the expenses.

There are also government-funded feeding programs but in many places, these are only available for a limited number of learners.

First Aeta to Pass Criminology Board Exams, Plans to Join Police Force

The first Aeta to pass the Criminology board exams plans to join the police force – and everyone’s cheering him on.

His feat even got the governor’s attention.

Aeta Passes Criminology Board Exams

The Aeta community is celebrating the win of Dexter Santos Valenton, a 23-year-old guy who recently passed the Criminology Board Exam conducted by the PRC (Professional Regulation Commission).

A resident of Barangay San Ramon in Floridablanca town, Pampanga, the young Aeta is believed to be the first to pass the Criminology board exams.

Gov. Dennis Pineda said that Valenton might also be the first member of the indigenous community, not just the Aeta community, to be part of the police force in their province.

The chief of the provincial social welfare and development office, Elizabeth Baybayan, also confirmed the young Aeta’s achievement.

We have many Aeta who passed the licensure exam for teachers. Dexter was the first to pass the criminology exam,” she explained.

Like many Aetas, Valenton’s family hardly had enough money to send him to school. They were farmers but were deep in debt from traders, known as sakadoras, and have nine children to send to school and feed.

But these challenges didn’t stop Valenton from dreaming of becoming a policeman – even if that means walking for hours so he can attend his classes in elementary and high school.

He was able to go to college, thanks to the provincial government’s scholarship program.

When he finally graduated from college, he still had another hurdle because he needed to pass the Criminology board exams. Thankfully, the governor also shouldered the review fees plus his board and lodging expenses.

I am elated. My only goal was to pass, but I am being praised for bringing honor to the Aeta [community],” he told the Inquirer.

His plan now is to become a policeman so he can help his tribe and his family.

Who are the Aetas?

The Aetas are the aborigines or the original people that inhabited the Philippines. They are considered the first migrants to the Philippines, having done so during the last glacial period or around 20,000 years ago.

This was when the land bridges appeared after the sea level sank nearly 100 meters.
