8 Healthy but Delicious Pinoy Foods You Need to Try
When you think of Pinoy foods, fat-rich dishes like lechon, adobo, and crispy pata often come to mind! But there are also lots of healthy but still delicious Pinoy foods that every health buff needs to try.
Ensaladang Talong
A lot of Pinoys love tortang talong but because this is cooked in oil, this isn’t as healthy as ensaladang talong or eggplant salad. It is prepared in a similar way as the torta dish, with the eggplant roasted with the skin on. Then, the skin is removed before the eggplant is mixed with tomatoes, onions, and calamansi.
Tinolang Tahong
Tahong or mussels are popular seafoods in the Philippines, thanks to its ready availability and affordable price. A rich source of folate, zinc, selenium, and vitamin B12, tahong is truly a healthy food. This dish is cooked with ginger, lemon grass, and leafy greens like malunggay or kamote tops.
Ginisang Monggo
Ginisang monggo or sauteed monggo beans is rich in folate, manganese, phosphorus, thiamine, iron, and magnesium. Often considered as poor man’s meat, monggo can be prepared without meat but also tastes great with pork and chicharon.
Laing
Prepared with coconut milk and spices, laing is an authentic Pinoy food that’s rich in iron as well as vitamins A and C. It is a delicious and healthy dish.
Bulanglang or Law-oy
A simple yet very healthy dish, this food item has different names in different areas of the country. Made of vegetables cooked in water without a lot of additives or even meat, this dish is called bulanglang in Batangas and law-oy in the Visayan region. You can add any vegetable you like but this is often cooked with malunggay or camote tops, okra, squash, eggplants, and spices like tomatoes, onions, and lemon grass.
Seaweed Salad
Prepared fresh from the sea, with just some calamansi or vinegar to taste, seaweed salad can be made from lato, guso, or some other seaweed. This healthy dish is a perfect companion to grilled or fried fish or pork.
Pinakbet
A traditional dish that’s cooked using vegetables with alamang (shrimp paste), pinakbet is rich in vitamins and minerals. It is often prepared with squash, string beans, eggplants, and okra. You can cook this with or without meat.
Fish Sinigang or Tinola
Sinigang and tinola are culinary cousins. These are both cooked with a water base and spices but sinigang makes use of items that make the soup sour, such as tamarind or unripe mangoes. Whereas tinola often uses malunggay leaves and camote tops, sinigang uses kangkong leaves and radish. Both can have eggplants.

Losing weight can be difficult, but many were able to achieve it with the right motivation. For one woman in Davao City, the motivation came in the form of Php50,000 that her husband promised she’d get if she achieves her goal. It was a challenge she readily accepted – and she soon won! Wow.
Woman Receives Php50k Reward for Losing Weight
Being healthy is something that people should really focus on, especially because getting sick can be costly. But everyone who’s ever gone through various diet and exercise fads will tell you that it’s really quite difficult to lose weight.
In reality, there are just too many temptations out there for you to eat more or slack off on your exercise routines. Plus, losing weight isn’t as simple as dieting for a couple of weeks – you might need to do it for months.
But for the many who were actually able to achieve their goal, finding the right motivation is the key.
For Cris Cringol from Davao City, the motivation is the Php50,000 that her husband promised if she reached her weight goal: losing 17 kg in 5 months.
While that’s certainly difficult to achieve, especially for a busy mom of two, Cringol was able to achieve her weight goal. She admitted that it first started out as a joke with her husband, but she would soon take up the offer – and he followed through with the reward.
So, how was she able to achieve it? Through exercise, she said.
According to Cringol, she exercised twice a day – early morning and before going to bed.
“It started as joke po siya maam.
Congratulations on winning the challenge!

Best Vegetables to Grow at Home
Vegetables are nutritious to eat. But these healthy foods can be so expensive or the ones that arrive at your locality might already be several days old. Don’t worry because there are actually a lot of vegetables that are so easy to grow at home!
If you live in the Philippines are other areas where there is a lot of sunshine, then these vegetables would be perfect for your garden.
Malunggay
Something that you can commonly see in most Filipino homes, malunggay is so easy to grow. In most parts of the country, you can just ask for a stem that you can plant at home. It doesn’t require a lot of maintenance or fertilizer. Once it takes root and grows leaves, you can have an endless supply of malunggay all year round.
Pechay
A delicious vegetable, pechay is so easy to grow. It does not even need a lot of soil. This is a perfect vegetable to grow even if you don’t have a lot of space because you can simply plant this inside 1.5L-softdrink bottles and place on a spot that gets some sun.
Eggplant
One of the easiest vegetables to grow, eggplants are perfect for the home garden. You can even grow these in containers. Just make sure to provide support so the heavy branches won’t break or the container won’t topple over.
Okra
A very low-maintenance vegetable to grow, okra is perfect for sunny areas. The plant grows fast. Once it starts bearing fruits, you’ll have a steady supply of okra. Just make sure to harvest while the fruits are still young or else the vegetable will be too hard.
Tomatoes
A lot of Filipinos use tomatoes for most dishes, whether salads or soups and stews. What’s great about this vegetable is that it is easy to grow and will also be perfect for container gardening if you don’t have a lot of space.
Squash
It is easy to grow squash but this vegetable requires a lot of space to grow. While it won’t be ideal if you have a small space, this would be perfect for gardens with plenty of space for the vines to grow.
